Gillian Armstrong Retrospective
The UP Film Institute presents
Pelikula @ Titus Brandsma
UP Videotheque
There's no doubt that she had a brilliant career and it's partly due to her films that Australian Cinema is being raved overseas and its talents lured by Hollywood.
The UP Film Institute and pelikula@titusbrandsma pay tribute to one of the pillars of the movie industry Down Under this September 19.
Veteran film critic Leonard Maltin couldn't have said it better with the following descriptions of the films to look forward to:
My Brilliant Career
1979, 101 minutes.
1 pm
Courtesy of the Australian Embassy
Excellent portrait of a headstrong young woman (Judy Davis) determined to live a life of independent and intelligent pursuits in turn-of-the-century Australia. Based on a true story.
Mrs. Soffel
1984, 110 minutes.
3:30 pm
Interesting but gloomy rendering of a true story, set in 1901, when wife of Pittsburgh prison warden (Diane Keaton) falls in love with convicted murderer (Mel Gibson).
High Tide (subject to change)
1987, 101 minutes.
6 pm
Quietly emotional story of a woman (Judy Davis) who inadvertently encounters the teenage daughter she abandoned years ago. It's fun to see Davis in the opening scenes playing a backup singer for a crummy Elvis impersonator.
There's an Australian Film Festival being held in SM
