"Feel Good"
The titles would hint of a "feel good" theme, which isn't necessarily the case.
Perfect Love
Catherine Breillat, France, 1996.
110 minutes.
Many scenes in PERFECT LOVE takes place in the bed and one viewer noted that there is a lot of eroticism and nudity in the first half. On the other hand, those unaccustomed to French Cinema would certainly be bored with the movie's endless yakking. However, it's in the dialogues that Catherine Breillat tackles the dynamics of relationships, not to mention that the film might fuel further curiosity on why she loathes men (as her other works have shown).
Happiness
Todd Solondz, USA, 1998.
134 minutes.
In HAPPINESS, Todd Solondz explores the personal problems and sex lives of 3 sisters. Those who have seen his indie hit, WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE, would expect another warped entertainment. Not recommended to everyone but the movie is acclaimed, having been honored at Cannes a few years ago.
Intimacy
Patrice Chereau, France, 2000.
119 minutes.
INTIMACY is the first English-speaking feature by Patrice Chereau, who is most remembered for QUEEN MARGOT and THOSE WHO LOVE ME CAN TAKE THE TRAIN. Mark Rylance and Kerry Fox meet every Wednesday afternoon for their weekly tryst. Their relationship would shift from physical to emotional as the film progresses. As the title implies, the French director takes a closer peek at human relationships. Furthermore, the movie is the top winner at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival.
